Lucas Magoon Photographs From Minnesota

A Partial Look At My Lucas Magoon Photographs From Minnesota

This past winter I was lucky enough to spend two trips in Minnesota with Lucas Magoon. I had originally shot with him in 2007/08 while he was in Vermont filming for one of the Grenade videos (see the published photo) and at Union Square in NYC of that same year. Since then I had not had the opportunity to shoot with him again. Our paths crossed again, when Lucas came out to Minnesota with the Big Bear homies Ryan Tarbell, Ian Sams, and Mark Reznikov. I was already with Cam Pierce and Ian Post so we all teamed up to tackle the street features in and around Minneapolis/St. Paul. It was a fun couple of week hanging with the crew, getting shots, and trying to stay warm. We didn’t get kicked out of very many spots, and nobody got hurt.

Lucas just dropped his first full part in a few years with TransWorld Snowboarding which you can see here. I interviewed him for the post and had the following shots published in the online article as well. More Gooner photos from this trip to be released soon.

Jess Kimura Photographed For TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine

In February of this year I flew to Detroit so I could photograph Jess Kimura for TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine. She was in Michigan filming for her video part in Capita Snowboards’ new movie Defenders Of Awesome 2: Stay Bad Ass. Snowboarders Mary Rand, Marie Hucal, and filmer Mark Dangler were there as well. We all pilled into a pair of mini vans and traveled the western side of the state for a week before stopping our caravan in Marquette. Along the way we found multiple features to session, had a car break down, and shared too many inappropriate dinner conversations to remember. The trip ended with Mark and I making an eight hour dash to Detroit to catch a pair of afternoon flights back to our respective homes.

Hot Dawgz And Hand Rails 2014

Last weekend was the 11th Annual Hot Dawgz And Hand Rails at Bear Mountain Resort in Big Bear Lakes, California. It’s the first snowboard contest in North America, always full of wild fans, and one of the best ways to kick off the season. This year over half of the contenders were friends like Ryan Tarbell, Lucas Magoon, Frank Bourgeois, Justin Mulfurd, Jaeger Bailey, Scotty Vine, Luke Haddock, Mariah Dugan, Riley Nickerson, Jordan Smalls, Johnny Lazz, Tommy Gesme, Brandon Hobush, Chris Bradshaw, and Dead Lung. The fact all these homies were riding in the contest made photographing the event a lot more enjoyable. I covered the event for Transworld Snowboarding and was able to have my long time friend Keenan Cawley write the story and tahoe bud Danny Kern film the edit. Check out the photos below and peep the full photo gallery and video at http://snowboarding.transworld.net/photos/johnny-oconnor-wins-2014-hot-dawgz-hand-rails.

Frank Bourgeois is a mean snowboarder hailing from Quebec, Canada and although you might not be able to pronounce his last name you won’t forget it anytime soon after watching his Stairsmasters 2014 part below. The photograph above I shot during my trip to Canada with Frank and the Brothers Factory crew. It is the first one images to be released from the trip with the rest appearing in snowboard magazines this coming winter.

Corey Smith and Mike Parillo “Neon Daze and Winter Waves”

For a week this fall I photographed Corey Smith and Mike Parillo making homemade snowboards for a new collaboration project called “Neon Daze and Winter Waves” presented by Spring Break Snowboards and Asymbol. See more photos, get info about the project, and even buy one of the snowboards by checking out the following articles at Transworld and Asymbol
